Walter Freiwald (moderator)

Walter Freiwald (born April 21, 1954 in Wittmund ; † November 16, 2019 ) was a German moderator .

Life

After finishing secondary school , Freiwald completed a commercial apprenticeship. In 1979 he got a job with the record company EMI . He then became an editor and later a presenter at various radio stations, including Radio Luxemburg and Radio Gong 2000 .

In 1989 Freiwald switched to television. At the side of Harry Wijnvoord he moderated the program The price is hot on RTL until 1997 and became known to a wider audience , initially through his voiceover , and became a favorite with over 1,800 programs.

In parallel, he hosted (then in 1991 on RTL RTL plus ) the teleshopping telecast show shop . In the mid-1990s Freiwald also appeared in the daily soap opera Unter uns . On March 1, 2001, RTL launched the RTL Shop teleshopping channel with Walter Freiwald at the head of the group of moderators. He also worked as program director at RTL Shop. Since then he has been seen on teleshopping programs almost every day. Before that he worked for the shopping channel QVC . At the end of 2007 he was the winner of the program The Perfect Celebrity Dinner and donated his winnings to the Burgwedel hospice movement.

In 2010 Freiwald applied to the SPD as a candidate for election to the Federal President . However, his application was denied.

From January 2012 to March 2013 he moderated the shopping channel Pearl.tv in Buggingen and worked there again for a short time at the end of 2017.

In January 2015 Freiwald was a candidate for the ninth season of I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here! . After the audience voted, he had to leave the camp three days before the final. Parallel to the participation in the jungle camp, the single Artur, alles wird gut , which Freiwald had already released in 1993, was released as a new edition. In 2015 he won again in the program The Perfect Celebrity Dinner , and he donated his winnings to the Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe. This was followed by guest appearances at Circus HalliGalli , Neo Magazin Royale and Herbstblond - Gottschalk's big birthday show in the role of the Federal President. In August 2015, he accepted I'm a Star - Let me back in! part.

In November 2015 his biography Frei Schnauze was published with a twinkle in the eye by Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf Verlag in Berlin .

From February 1, 2016, he hosted the Freiwald am Morgen program twice a week on the teleshopping broadcaster 1-2-3.tv . In June 2016, he let himself be hypnotized under hypnosis on the RTL show Show me in the eye - celebrities . In October 2016 he acted as the presenter of the section The sweat is hot on Luke Mockridge's show Luke! The week and me with. Walter Freiwald has also been the advertising face for a car dealership chain in the federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg and Thuringia since 2016. Since 2017, he has also been part of the funk YouTube show World Wide Living several times , in which he mostly acted as a moderator for smaller games.

Freiwald was committed to the German Brain Tumor Aid . He was married, had two sons (including Neill Freiwald ) and lived in Meerbusch , Rhein-Kreis Neuss . On November 6, 2019, Freiwald made his incurable cancer public on his social media channels . He died just ten days later at the age of 65.
