Walter Rogalla von Bieberstein
Walter Alexander Ernst Rogalla von Bieberstein (born December 20, 1851 at Gut Rosoggen ; † January 9, 1914 in Königsberg ) was a German landowner and Prussian politician .
family
He came from the old East Prussian noble family Rogalla von Bieberstein and was the fourth son of the landowner Alexander Rogalla von Bieberstein (1813–1876), lord of the Rosoggen ( Polish: Rozogi ), and the nanny von Mirbach (1809–1876) from Sorquitten (Polish: Sorkwity ) . Of the older brothers, Willibald and Christoph became professional officers, while Friedrich fell as an ensign in the Franco-German War .
Bieberstein married on July 14, 1877 on Gut Tautschken near Soldau Olga Schilke (born April 12, 1854 on Gut Tautschken ; † January 17, 1943 on Gut Rosoggen), the second youngest of the five daughters of the manor owner Maximilian Schilke, landlord of Tautschken, and the Amalie Fettin. The older daughter Lucie Schilke was married to the brother Wilibald Rogalla von Bieberstein, the youngest Josephine Schilke married the later district administrator of Neidenburg in Ganshorn in 1880, then of Wolmirstedt, Friedrich Oskar von Hasselbach, son of the Magdeburg mayor Carl Gustav Friedrich Hasselbach .
His two sons, Waldemar (1878–1907), who was sent to the USA for misconduct but died in 1907 when his ship sank near Haiti , and Kuno (1880–1921) come from his marriage .
Life
Bieberstein grew up bilingual with his brothers on their father's estate Rosoggen (today: Rozogy) in Masuria. German was spoken in the family, Masurian or Polish on the farm. Sun Daily it went in Pairs for Protestant Church ribs (Polish Rybno ). After preparation by a private tutor, he and an older brother went to the high school in Rastenburg ( Kętrzyn in Polish ). He then did military service in the Prussian Army from 1868 to 1870 as a second lieutenant in the Grenadier Regiment "Kronprinz" (1st East Prussian) No. 1 in Königsberg, with whom he also took part in the Franco-German War. He served in this regiment until 1879. In 1880 he came to the 6th Landwehr Regiment No. 43 in Lötzen , where he served as Prime Lieutenant in 1880/84 . He left the army with the rank of captain of the Landwehr.
He later managed his property from Rosoggen, where he built the manor house around 1877 with the help of his wife's dowry. In 1879 he managed a total area of 641.9 hectares (of which fields and gardens 435.5 hectares, meadows 93.2 hectares, forests 110.0 hectares and wasteland 3.2 hectares) with a net property tax of 3,015 marks. The economic pillars of the estate were horse breeding (Remonten), sheep breeding, pig breeding and arable farming.
From 1900 to 1906 he was head of the district of Ribben ( Rybno in Polish ), which comprised the five municipalities of Groß Kamionken (1929 to 1945: Großsteinfelde , Polish : Kamionka Wielka , no longer existent), Koslau ( Kozłowo ), Ribben ( Rybno ), Rosoggen ( Rozogi ) and Steinhof ( Kamionka ). In 1906 he passed the management of the Rosoggen manor to his second son, Lieutenant of the Reserve Kuno Rogalla von Bieberstein.
From 1909 he was a member of the Prussian mansion in Berlin. In 1909, Bieberstein was a founding member of the Rogalla von Bieberstein e. V. His family describes him as “noble landlords, charming landlords and somewhat sarcastic” and his wife Olga as “ruler in their realm, brilliant representative and with sparkling humor”.
