Wang Huning ( Chinese  王 滬寧  /  王 沪宁 , Pinyin Wáng Hùníng ; born October 6, 1955 in Shanghai , China ) is a politician in the People's Republic of China and has been a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China since November 2012 .

Wang studied French at the Eastern China Pedagogical University from 1972 to 1977 . From 1978 to 1981 he studied international politics at Fudan University and obtained a Master of Law degree . He then worked as a lecturer at this university, most recently from 1994 and 1995 as dean of the law faculty. During this time as a university professor, he was visiting professor at the University of Iowa and the University of California, Berkeley between 1988 and 1989 .

In April 1984 he joined the Chinese Communist Party .

In 1995 he moved to Beijing to join the Political Research Bureau of the CCP Central Committee , of which he has been director since 2002. In that capacity, he was a senior political advisor and speechwriter to Communist Party General Secretaries Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao . He was instrumental in drafting the Jiang Triple Representation Political Guidelines and the scientific theory of Hu's development.

Since 2002 he was a member of the Central Committee and from 2007 to 2012 of the Secretariat of the Central Committee. In November 2012, Wang was elected a member of the CCP Political Bureau at the 18th Congress.
