Wayne Static (2007)

Wayne Static (* 4. November 1965 in Muskegon , Michigan as Wayne Richard Wells ; † 1. November 2014 ) was an American rock musician . He became known as the rhythm guitarist and singer of the alternative metal band Static-X .

Life

In 1994 Wayne Static founded the band Deep Blue Dream together with drummer Ken Jay . In 1995 it was renamed Static ; from 1997 the group was active as Static-X . Their debut album Wisconsin Death Trip was released on March 23, 1999, and their 2001 album Machine was able to advance to number 11 in the US charts.

During the "Cannibal Killers" tour in 2007, Wayne Static met porn actress Tera Wray, whom he married in early 2008 in Las Vegas . Both the 2009 album Cult Of Static and the single Stingwray on it was dedicated to Static's wife.

In early 2010 Static announced that Static-X would take a break and longtime bassist Tony Campos had left the band. During this break he worked alone on his first solo album Pighammer , which was released on October 4, 2011. The subsequent tour lasted until the beginning of 2012. After that, Static wanted to work with Static-X again, but due to disagreements between the band members, it didn't come to that. Then Static went on tour with his own solo band under the band name Static-X. This was followed by a legal dispute with Tony Campos over the naming rights, as a result of which Static-X was finally dissolved in the course of 2013.

On November 1, 2014, two days before the start of a US tour with Powerman 5000 and American Head Charge and an international tour for early 2015 with Drowning Pool , which was only announced at the end of October, it was announced that Static had died in his sleep. Rumors of a possible overdose as the cause of Static's death were countered by the musician's management: Static had been clean since 2009 and since then has refrained from hard drugs . Forensic investigations found that Static's death was due to the ingestion of a toxic mixture of prescription medication for pain relief and sedation in combination with large amounts of alcohol. On January 13, 2016, his widow Tera Wray Static, who had suffered from depression since Wayne Static's death, took her own life.

Guitarist Koichi Fukuda, bassist Tony Campos and drummer Ken Jay have announced the new and final Static-X album PROJECT REGENERATION for spring 2019. It will be produced again by Ulrich Wild. Old vocals by Wayne Static to be used, and there will be many guest singers on the album, including David Draiman of Disturbed , Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch and Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory .
