The Wega is one of three surveying, wreck search and research vessels operated by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) in Hamburg . The shipowner is the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure .
history
The ship was built under construction number 1522 at the Kröger shipyard in Schacht-Audorf . The construction costs amounted to about 36 million DM.
The keel was laid on September 14, 1989, the launch on March 2, 1990. The ship was christened on this day . The godmother was Birgit Zimmermann, the wife of the then Federal Minister of Transport, Friedrich Zimmermann . The completion of the ship took place in October 1990, the commissioning on October 26th of the year.
The ship is named after the star Wega , the main star in the constellation Lyra .
Technical specifications
The ship is powered by a Siemens - electric motor with 600 kW power driven, of a fixed propeller acts. The ship thus reaches a speed of 11 knots . Two diesel generators with 830 kVA apparent power are available to power the traction motor and the on-board electrical system . A diesel generator with 395 kVA apparent power is installed as a harbor generator, and a diesel generator with 10 kVA apparent power is installed as an emergency generator. The engines run on synthetic GtL fuel . The fuel is sulfur-free, which means better exhaust gas values are achieved than with conventional diesel fuels.
The ship is equipped with a bow thruster with 530 kW power. It also has a stern jet control system with 48 kW output.
The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice . The ship is classified with ice class "E".
The ship is equipped with various cranes and winches . There is a working crane with a 12.5 m radius on board, as well as a jib and several davits .
commitment
The ship is mainly used for surveying and wreck seeking work and for maintenance work on the Seegangsmessbojen and BSH monitoring network stations in the German coastal waters of the North and Baltic used. The ship has the appropriate equipment for this, such as vertical and fan echo sounders and sonar systems .
The ship is also equipped with two flat-going survey boats, which are also fully equipped with echo sounders and data acquisition systems in order to be able to operate independently in shallow waters. Furthermore, there is a complete range of diving equipment on board, so that diving operations are possible both from the ship and from a survey boat. The Wega is equipped with an ROV .
There are several laboratories and scientific rooms on board the ship. There are spaces for additional laboratory containers . So two 20 ' containers on top of each other and one 10' container or six 10 'containers can be loaded.
There is space on board for 16 crew members and seven scientists.
The main area of application is the German North Sea coast with its estuaries, the twelve-mile zone and the German exclusive economic zone in the North Sea.
The Wega had covered around 140,000 nautical miles by October 2005 and found around 200 previously unknown underwater obstacles.
