The village Weidenau was first mentioned in 1012 as "Widenaho" by the Fulda monastery .

Area refrom

Weidenau was an independent municipality in the East Hessian district of Fulda until the regional reform in the state of Hesse and was incorporated into the municipality of Freiensteinau in the Vogelsberg district on August 1, 1972 by state law .

Weidenau is a village in which a majority of Catholic Christians lived before the regional reform in Hesse and which is still assigned to the diocese of Fulda . Weidenau with its Catholic branch church "Maria Rosenkranzkönigin" is still part of the parish "St. Bartolomäus ” in Hauswurz , community Neuhof in the district of Fulda and is looked after by pastoral care from there . The rectory is located at Taufsteinstrasse 2a by the parish church in Hauswurz.
