The Wellington Rugby Football Union (WRFU) is the provincial rugby union for the New Zealand capital Wellington and the suburbs of Porirua , Upper Hutt and Lower Hutt . The association and jersey colors are black and yellow. The association's selection team in the national championship ITM Cup , known as the Wellington Lions , plays its home games at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
Wellington has won the New Zealand Championship (the former National Provincial Championship ) four times. In addition, the team won the first game for the Ranfurly Shield in 1904 and held the trophy eight more times.
Wellington players make up most of the Hurricanes team , who play in the international super rugby championship . For this reason, the Hurricanes' home games are also played in Wellington.
