Wendi Deng ( Chinese  邓 文 迪 , Pinyin Dèng Wéndí ; born December 8, 1968 in Shandong , People's Republic of China ) is an American entrepreneur of Chinese origin.

Life

Wendi Deng is the daughter of a factory director. Her father called her Wenge, short for " Cultural Revolution ". As an adolescent she changed her first name to Wendi. After graduating from high school, she attended a medical school in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou . There she met the American couple Jake and Joyce Cherry. They helped her study in the United States . In 1988 Deng became a student at California State University , where she received a bachelor's degree in business and was among the top 1% of students. In 1996 she completed her MBA -Studies in Yale from. After completing her studies, she started working as an intern at Star-TV . She became the first Chinese employee of this television station.

Rupert Murdoch, then 29 (then 68), was introduced at a cocktail party in Hong Kong . Shortly afterwards, Murdoch separated from his second wife Anna . The couple married on June 25, 1999 on Murdoch's yacht " Morning Glory " in New York Harbor . The marriage resulted in two daughters. Murdoch named Wendi Deng as Vice President of Star TV. Joseph Ravitch, media analyst at Goldman Sachs , says Deng gave News Corporation a Chinese face.

In November 2013, Deng was divorced from Murdoch. According to Murdoch, the reason for the divorce was a relationship between Deng and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair . The affair between 45-year-old Deng and 60-year-old Blair is said to have taken place in 2012. According to the divorce agreement, Wendi Deng and her daughters will not receive voting shares from News Corp. or 21st Century Fox , the two Murdoch corporations. After separating from her husband, she entered into a liaison with the Hungarian model Bertold Zahoran.

Act

In 2007 Deng became the strategic director for MySpace's operations in China. In 2011 she made her debut as a film producer with Snow Flower and the Secret Fan . Together with Darja Alexandrovna Schukowa , she hosted Art Basel Miami Beach 2012.
