Werner Meng

Werner Meng (born February 22, 1948 in Mainz ; † July 1, 2016 ) was a German legal scholar . From 1999 to 2013 he held the chair for public law , international law and European law at Saarland University as well as director of the European Institute at this university.

Career

Werner Meng studied law at the Universities of Mainz and Lausanne (Switzerland) and did his doctorate and habilitation at the University of Mainz. From 1980 to 1989 he was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and in 1985 a research scholar at the University of Michigan School of Law , Ann Arbor . After working as a lawyer in Munich in the meantime , Meng took over the chair for public law, international law, European law and international business law at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , where he was also director of the Institute for Business Law from 1997 to 1999 and in 1998 / 99 was Dean of the Law Faculty. From 1999 to 2013 he was professor for public law, international law and European law as well as director of the Europa-Institut, law section at Saarland University. In addition, from 2009 he was honorary professor at the University of Yunnan , Kunming ( China ).

Meng was visiting professor at Chicago Kent University , World Trade Institute Bern ( Switzerland ), Amsterdam Law School , University of Rijeka Law School ( Croatia ), Tulane Law School ( New Orleans ), Louisiana State University ( Baton Rouge ), at the Hong Kong City University School of Law , at the Beijing University School of Law , at the Chinese Academy of social sciences ( Beijing ), at the Université Pierre Mendes France Grenoble , at the Wuhan University School of Law , at from Panteion University of Athens ( Greece ) and Visiting Professorial Fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law, Georgetown University School of Law , Washington, DC

He published in particular on international business law , general international law and EC / EU law .
