How much do you love me? is a French love - comedy from the year 2005 .

action

François is a small office worker in Paris who longs for love but is afraid to speak to women. That's why he regularly goes to a brothel in the red light district around Place Pigalle . One evening the prostitute Daniela asked him to go to the Separée with him for 150 euros. He does not respond, but makes a counter-proposal: He has won four million euros in the lottery, he is offering her 100,000 euros for every month that she will live with him from now on, as long as the money lasts. She accepts the suggestion, provided that he treats her gently and with respect.

François is indeed very loving with her, she also enjoys walks and romping around with him. But after a few days Daniela gets bored in his small, rundown apartment while he's in the office. She returns to the brothel and to her pimp Charly. But when he rudely forces her to have sex in the presence of a bodyguard in order to confirm his claim to possession, she shows herself disgusted. She explains to him that by meeting François she has regained her sense of shame. Then she moves back in with François, because meanwhile her heart has opened to his shyness and tenderness. But Charly doesn't want to lose her without something in return. He appears with two bodyguards at François and demands a four million euro transfer fee for Daniela. He says he won't pay this sum, whereupon the disappointed Daniela leaves with Charly.

But after a few days she is back in front of the apartment. When she heard cries of pleasure from the neighboring apartment, she pounded on the door there. François opens her naked, he just had sex with the neighbor. But she explains to Daniela that she is not interested in a relationship with François, that they slept together to dispel the “grief over loneliness”. François now confesses to Daniela that he never won four million euros in the lottery. Yet she stays with him.

François' office colleagues ring the doorbell, they are worried because he has not shown up for work for a few days. When he introduces Daniela as his partner, a party breaks out spontaneously. Charly arrives to bring Daniela back, but finally accepts that she has chosen François and the petty bourgeois life with him.

music

The music for the film consists mainly of opera melodies by Vincenzo Bellini , Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini . Motifs from Verdi's masked ball run through the scenes when Daniela and François carefully approach each other . At the party in his apartment, the guests dance to the carnival music from La traviata , which was also a prostitute. In the final scene, in which Daniela and François are having breakfast, the love duet from Madame Butterfly sounds .

criticism

“The frivolous love comedy about desire and greed explores the question of whether happiness can be bought, whereby it also questions who or what one can own at all. The optically styled film was tailor-made for Monica Bellucci, although the old man's fantasy of the 'holy whore' also comes into play. "

“With a provocative and highly erotic story, director Bertrand Blier (' Die Ausgebufften ', ' Der Abendanzug ') is back in top form beyond his last old man's fantasies. Blier knows how to vary his favorite subjects like sex, submission and power once more and to stage Monica Bellucci between tragic and comic figure as a dream of men. However, you have to cut back on the unspeakable and mostly completely unsuitable use of music. Image and sound seldom caused such dissonances. "

“'How much do you love me?' is not a big film, but a charming, often funny erotic fairy tale with the gorgeous Monica Bellucci. However, you will look in vain for them in the shop window of the night bar at Pigalle when you next visit Paris. "
