Wilhelm Ferdinand von Berg (born June 28, 1794 in Potsdam , † June 9, 1885 in Halle (Saale) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

His parents were Wilhelm Ferdinand von Berg (1747-1827) and his wife Christiane Sophie Friederike, born von Wangenheim (1759-1824). His father was a Prussian colonel and director of the military orphanage in Potsdam.

Military career

Berg visited the cadet houses in Kalisch and Berlin . In 1806 he was employed as a Junker in the Hussar Regiment "von Württemberg" of the Prussian Army and after the Fourth Coalition War he received his resignation in 1807 .

On August 1, 1808, Berg joined the Leib-Infanterie-Regiment as a volunteer , advanced to Portepeefähnrich at the beginning of November 1710 , before joining the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment on June 4, 1811 . There he was promoted to second lieutenant on December 1, 1811 .

During the Wars of Liberation , Berg fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Bautzen , Leipzig , on the Katzbach and Laon . In the battle near Reichenbach he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class.

On March 29, 1815, he was transferred to the 8th Hussar Regiment and on October 27, 1816, he was aggregated to the Guard-Uhlan Regiment . On March 30, 1817 he was classified as a prime lieutenant and on June 20, 1822 as a cavalry captain and squadron chief in the guard cuirassier regiment . From March 30, 1837 to May 15, 1844 he was a major and regular staff officer in the 2nd Cuirassier Regiment . He was then commissioned to lead the 6th Cuirassier Regiment and on January 14, 1815, Berg was appointed regiment commander. In this position he rose to colonel by May 1849. On March 11, 1852 he came as a commander in the 7th Cavalry Brigade , where he was promoted to major general on March 22, 1852 . Under awarding of the character as General Lieutenant Berg received his on August 9, 1855 farewell with board . On July 10, 1858 he was put up for disposal .

After his departure, Berg received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with star and oak leaves, on October 18, 1862 . He died on June 9, 1885 in Halle (Saale).

Berg married Eleonore Karoline Wilhelmine Christiane Anna Ehrengard von Romberg (1798–1872) in Buskow on May 30, 1825 . The couple had several children:
