Life

Jost studied from 1921 to 1926 at the University of Halle-Wittenberg , with a semester in between at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After his diploma in 1924 and his doctorate in 1926 with Carl Tubandt in Halle, he worked from 1926 to 1929 as a private assistant to Max Bodenstein at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . In 1942 Jost was temporarily deputy head of the Institute for Fuels and Lubricants in Strasbourg, which was subordinate to the Reich Ministry of Aviation . From 1943 he initially took over the representation at the chair for physical chemistry and was then full professor and director of the Physico-Chemical Institute at the University of Marburg from 1944 to 1951 . From 1951 Jost was a full professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt and then from 1953 at the Georg-August University of Göttingen as the successor to Arnold Eucken . In 1971 he retired .
