Wilhelm Kaltenborn (born August 15, 1937 in Berlin ) is a German trade unionist , cooperative member , author and was chairman of the supervisory board of Zentralkonsum eG.

Life

Kaltenborn grew up in Berlin and graduated from high school in 1956 . He then studied sociology and political science until 1966 a . a. with Otto Stammer and Ossip K. Flechtheim at the Free University of Berlin . During several semesters of leave he took up work in factories and on construction sites to finance his studies. In 1959 he took part in the first action of Aktion Sühnezeichen in the Netherlands . While still a student he worked in the party research group at the Institute for Political Science . His diploma thesis in sociology dealt with the topic "The social committees of the Christian-Democratic workforce and their significance for the CDU as a people 's party ".

Professional Activities

Kaltenborn worked from 1966 to 1969 as an employee in an office organization company in the field of the development of manual punched card systems. Then he was head of division at the federal executive committee of the German trade union federation (DGB) in Düsseldorf until 1975 and there a. a. responsible for macroeconomic participation and for relations between the DGB and the churches . From 1971 to 1975 he was a member of the “Economic Democratization” committee of the European Trade Union Confederation in Brussels . Since 1975 he has been directly subordinate to the DGB chairman Heinz Oskar Vetter , was responsible for his speeches, and also continued to be responsible for relations with the churches and from 1976 for relations between the DGB and the FDGB of the GDR . He represented the DGB in the Kuratorium Indivisible Germany .

From autumn 1982 - after the enrichment scandal at Neue Heimat (NH) in Hamburg and the installation of a new management team - he became head of the newly formed secretariat of the NH management, which gradually received additional responsibilities. After the sale of NH in August 1986 to the "baker" Horst Schiesser , he ended his employment at NH before the purchase contract came into effect.

After the banks had arranged a trusteeship for the NH at the end of 1986 , he became assistant to the trustee Heinz Sippel in Frankfurt am Main , who was previously responsible for the restructuring of the Hessische Landesbank . He was a member of the supervisory board of Neue Heimat Hamburg as well as the supervisory boards of various regional companies. In January 1990 the trusteeship was terminated. He then took on a job for a year at the holding company for the common economy of the trade unions , also in Frankfurt.

From May 1991, Kaltenborn was head of the board of directors at the Association of Consumer Cooperatives (VdK of the GDR until October 1990 ) in Berlin, which was called "Association", but as a registered cooperative it functioned primarily as a commercial enterprise even after 1990. In December 1993 he became a member of the board and two years later until 2002 he became board spokesman. From 1994 to 2004 he was a member of the Audit and Control Committee of the International Association of Cooperatives (ICA) in Geneva , and from 2000 to 2003 he was co-president of the General Association of German Consumer Cooperatives (Berlin / Hamburg). From the end of 2002 to May 2020 he was also chairman of the supervisory board of the VdK, renamed “ Zentralkonsum eG”, and from 2009 to 2012 chairman of the board of trustees of the later Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch- Gesellschaft.
