Wilhelm Krull (born February 19, 1952 in Emsland ) was Secretary General of the Volkswagen Foundation in Hanover from 1996 to 2019 . From 2003 to 2005 he was Chairman of the Association of Large European Foundations (The Hague Club), from 2006 to 2008 Chairman of the European Foundation Center and from 2008 to 2014 Chairman of the Board of the Association of German Foundations .

Life

Krull studied German, philosophy, education and political science in Bremen and Marburg and then did his doctorate. He then worked for four years as a DAAD lecturer at the University of Oxford and held leading positions in the Science Council and in the general administration of the Max Planck Society . Wilhelm Krull was Secretary General of the Volkswagen Foundation from 1996 to 2019 .

In addition to his professional activities in science policy and research funding, he has held numerous functions in national, foreign and international bodies, including the OECD , the EU , the BMBF , the Max Planck Society and the Science Council. From 2005 to 2006 he headed the expert commission for the preparation of the Excellence Initiative . He has also been active as a scientific policy advisor abroad, for example in Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland as well as in China, Canada, Singapore and South Africa.
