Wilhelm Otto Karl Ewald von Zastrow (born December 7, 1779 in Kösternitz , † October 17, 1842 in Elze ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Wilhelm Otto Karl Ewald came from the Zastrow family . He was a son of the gentleman on Reinfeld and Kösternitz Ernst Wilhelm von Zastrow and his wife Luise Elisabeth, born von Ramel (* 1753).

Military career

Zastrow attended the cadet institute in Stolp from July 26, 1788 and moved to Berlin in August 1793 . On March 18, 1795 he was employed as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Reißenstein" of the Prussian army . In 1797 he was promoted to ensign in the regiment and that same year to secondary lieutenant . In 1806 he was captured during the surrender of Magdeburg.

In 1809 he was again in the Prussian infantry as prime lieutenant and in 1810 was aggregated into the body infantry regiment (No. 8) . In 1812 he was promoted to staff captain , in 1813 to captain and company commander . Zastrow took part in the Wars of Liberation and fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Katzbach , Laon , Château-Thierry and Paris . During the campaign he was wounded twice and was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and the Order of St. Vladimir IV class.

In 1815 he was promoted to major , in 1817 he was battalion commander, in 1828 lieutenant colonel and in 1830 commander of the 30th Infantry Regiment . In 1833 Zastrow became commander of the 21st Infantry Regiment and in 1837 commander of the 13th Landwehr Brigade in Münster , but the same year he was again aggregated into the 21st Infantry Regiment. On the occasion of his promotion to major general Zastrow was on March 30, 1838 with the Red Eagle Order III. Excellent with the ribbon. He was given the character of Lieutenant General on July 21, 1842 with the statutory pension, and his departure was approved.

He died barely four months later of a severe throat disease in Elze on his way from Münster to Berlin, where he intended to move into his retirement home. Zastrow was also buried in the cemetery in Elze.

Zastrow married on November 25, 1819 in Frankfurt (Oder) with Johanna Ulrike Lemke (* 1792; † April 17, 1845), the daughter of war councilor Johann Karl Lemke. From this marriage two sons were born:

  • Karl Friedrich Emil Wilhelm (* May 2, 1821 - † February 25, 1877), Prussian second lieutenant a. D. and painter
  • Paul Alexander Wilhelm Bernd (born June 16, 1827; † 1876), retired Prussian major D.
