Hans Wilhelm Karl von Linger (born March 4, 1794 in Berlin ; † January 20, 1871 in Berlin) was a Prussian lieutenant general and inspector of the 3rd artillery inspection.

Life

origin

The family received the nobility in 1705 from the artillery general Christian Nicolaus von Linger . The general's nephew, Colonel Peter Salomon von Linger , was the lieutenant general's grandfather. Wilhelm was the son of the Prussian captain of the artillery Karl Wilhelm von Linger (1757-1805) and his wife Karoline Amalie Elisabeth, née Eltester (1766-1822).

Military career

Linger joined the Brandenburg Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a gunner on August 1, 1811 and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by the end of February 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm and Leipzig . For Montmirail Linger received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He also took part in the battles near Pirna, Nollendorf and the siege of Erfurt .

On May 23, 1816 he became Premier Lieutenant and Adjutant of the Guards Artillery Brigade. After Linger was released from this position on April 14, 1818, he was promoted to captain at the end of the month. On January 11, 1820, he was transferred from the square to Schweidnitz as an artillery officer, returned to the Guards Artillery Brigade in mid-March 1826 and from there on February 15, 1827 he was transferred to the artillery department of the War Ministry . There he was promoted to major on April 19, 1832 with a patent from May 3, 1832 and aggregated to the Guards Artillery Brigade on November 7, 1834 . He was then transferred to the 1st Artillery Brigade as a department commander on April 23, 1836, and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 7, 1842 in this position . On February 25, 1843, he joined the Guards Artillery Brigade and was a member of the examination board for prime lieutenants of the artillery. This was followed by a position as head of the artillery department in the War Ministry from October 26, 1843, and on March 22, 1846, the promotion. As such, Linger was aggregated into the Guards Artillery Brigade on May 4, 1848, and appointed inspector of the artillery workshops. At the same time he was also a member of the artillery examination commission from June 22, 1848.

On June 16, 1850 Linger was appointed commandant of Danzig and on April 19, 1851 promoted to major general. On May 18, 1854, he was appointed inspector of the 3rd Artillery Inspection, and on July 13, 1854, he was promoted to lieutenant general. Linger took his on April 2, 1857 farewell with board . On the occasion of the coronation of Wilhelm I, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves on October 18, 1861 , and then put up for disposal on December 24, 1864 with his pension . He died on January 20, 1871 in Berlin and was buried on January 24, 1871 in the Invalidenfriedhof .

Linger married on July 19, 1818 in Berlin Friederike Amalie Marie Gericke (1797–1864), the second daughter of the rentier Gericke. The couple had several children:
