Wilhelm Christian Ernst Ludwig Friedrich Georg von Urff (born March 26, 1799 in Kassel , † January 8, 1855 in Zwesten ) was a major general of the Electorate of Hesse and from 1835 to 1841 he was a member of the Electoral Hesse assembly of estates .

Life

family

The von und zu Urff family is an old noble family from Lower Hesse , from which numerous personalities from Hessian history emerged. His father Wilhelm Georg Ludwig Kasimir von Urff (born November 11, 1753 in Niederurff , † September 6, 1834 in Zwesten) became lieutenant general and governor of Kassel. He married on October 18, 1797 in Zwesten Amöne Antoinette Marie Friederike Wilhelmine von Dalwigk (born August 16, 1770 in Dillich ; † August 30, 1858 in Kassel) from the house of Schauenburg . The couple had three sons and a daughter.

Wilhelm was the oldest child. His younger brother Friedrich von Urff became the Electorate of Hesse government secretary in Marburg and was also a member of the Electorate Hesse assembly of estates. Her only sister Ernstine Friederike Karoline von Urff (born January 6, 1801 in Niederurff; † March 28, 1831 in Zwesten) married Major General Julius Georg von Langenschwarz from Hesse in October 1821.

Professional background

Urff was initially a major in the Hessian bodyguard regiment . From 1835 to 1838, the 4th and 5th Landtag, as well as in 1841, the 7th Landtag, he was a member of the Hessian Estates Assembly for the Count of Ysenburg-Büdingen . In 1845 Urff became commander of the 1st Infantry Regiment and in 1846 commander of the Leibgard Regiment. In 1849 he was temporarily on the board of the War Ministry. Most recently he was in command of the 1st Infantry Brigade.

He died on January 8, 1855, at the age of 55, as an electoral major general out of service in Zwesten, a family estate with Zwesten Castle , which his father had inherited in 1800.

Marriage and offspring

Wilhelm von Urff married on May 6, 1827 in Zwesten Louise Friederike von Borch (born September 7, 1801 in Kassel, † January 9, 1880 in Kassel), a daughter of the Electorate of Hesse, Colonel Johann Heinrich Otto von Borch. They had nine children, five sons and four daughters. Two sons died in childhood, all others served as officers in the Prussian army .
