Wilhelmsburger Inselpark

The Wilhelmsburger Inselpark is a public green area in the Wilhelmsburg district in the Hamburg-Mitte district . It was created as a subsequent use of the area of the International Garden Show 2013 and was opened on October 14, 2013.

Location, name and size

The park is bounded by the streets “Neuenfelder Straße”, “Kornweide” and “Georg-Wilhelm-Straße” and in the east by the railway tracks running there . The main entrance is at “Gertrud-von-Thaden-Platz”, near the “Wilhelmsburg” S-Bahn stop and the authority for urban development and housing as well as the authority for the environment and energy . In the north, the “Wilhelmsburger Inselpark” borders the “ Wilhelmsburger Rathauspark ”, which is separate from it as an independent green area.

The park was named on the one hand by the part of the city in which it is located and on the other hand because of its quality as an Elbe island .

The "Wilhelmsburger Inselpark" has a total area of 100 hectares .

Emergence

When the IGS was being planned, it was decided to prepare the previous area, which until then consisted of meadows, allotment gardens , biotopes and dense bushes and trees, for the garden show and later to convert it into a public park.

Equipment and design

The “Wilhelmsburger Inselpark” has several lawns, official barbecue areas , three playgrounds for children and sports areas, a canoe canal , a high ropes course , a terrace restaurant and a kiosk .

Legal regulations

According to the Dog Law of 2006, dogs are required to be leashed on the park area . There are no opening times ; The park can be used at any time as long as the night's rest is observed.
