Willi Neubert

Willi Neubert (born November 9, 1920 in Brandau , Czechoslovakia ; † August 7, 2011 in Ballenstedt ) was a German painter . He was best known for his large-format enamel murals .
Life
During his work as an unskilled worker and locksmith from 1934 to 1938, Willi Neubert completed further training at evening school and completed a distance learning course to become a technical draftsman and designer . After working as a draftsman in Plauen , he was drafted into military service from 1940 to 1945. Immediately after the war he worked from 1945 to 1950 as a steelworker and device designer in the iron and steel works Thale (Harz), where he was a member of the management of the SED's Works Party Organization (BPO) , to which he had belonged since 1948. From 1950 to 1952 he studied at the University of Industrial Design in Halle, Burg Giebichenstein under Charles Crodel , Ulrich Knispel and Kurt Bunge, among others . From 1953 he worked as a freelancer in Thale.
From 1960 to 1962 and 1970/71 Willi Neubert took on a teaching position at the University of Industrial Design in Halle, Burg Giebichenstein in Halle . In 1970 he was appointed head of the Institute for Architectural Email in Thale, which he co-founded and which was attached to the university. In 1971 he became a professor here .
Thanks to the close cooperation with the iron and steel works in Thale, Willi Neubert was able to further develop the technology of industrial enamel . Here colored enamel is applied to steel plates. The resulting enamel panels are put together to form large-scale works. An example of this technique is the mural from 1977/78 on the town hall in Suhl .
Since 1964 Willi Neubert was a member of the Akademie der Künste . From 1963 to 1967 Neubert was a member of the People's Chamber for the Kulturbund of the GDR .
Study trips took him to Albania (1958), India (1963), Finland (1972), Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union (1959, 1960, 1961, 1966). He had solo exhibitions in New Delhi (1963) and Finland (1972), among others .
Since October 2006 Willi Neubert was an honorary citizen of Thale; there is also his final resting place.
