William G. Hardwick

William Guy Hardwick (born May 30, 1910 in Hartford , Geneva County , Alabama , † January 15, 1993 ) was an American politician . Hardwick was a member of the Democratic Party .

The son of William and Emma (nee Corbitt) Hardwick first went to Hartford Public School. After leaving high school in 1928, he attended the University of Alabama . In 1933 he finished his studies and began practicing as a lawyer in Dothan .

In 1938 Hardwick became a member of the Alabama House of Representatives . In 1942 he was re-elected, but shortly after the election he gave up his seat in favor of a place in the US Air Force . He was quickly promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant , after which he worked as a teacher of military law at the Officers' Training School in Miami . On December 25, 1945, Hardwick resigned his service with the rank of major .

The following year he became a member of the Alabama Senate for the Henry and Houston Counties . In 1954 he was elected lieutenant governor of the state of Alabama and held that office for one legislative term.

Hardwick had been married to Dorothy Creel since September 18, 1936.
