James Folsom Jr.

James Elisha Folsom Jr. (born May 14, 1949 in Montgomery , Alabama ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ) and vice governor of the state of Alabama from 2007 to 2011 . From 1993 to 1995 he held the post of governor of Alabama , which his father Jim Folsom had already held twice before.

Early years and political advancement

James Folsom received his BA in Political Science and History from Jacksonville State University in 1974 . He began his political career in 1979 when he was elected to the Public Service Commission . He was re-elected in 1983. Folsom also ran for the US Senate in 1980 , but suffered a defeat. He then ran for the post of lieutenant governor of Alabama in 1986 and was elected. It was confirmed in 1990.

Governor of Alabama

On April 22, 1993, he was sworn in as Governor of Alabama to fill the post of Governor Guy Hunt , who had to leave office on conviction for violating ethics laws. Folsom ran for governor in November 1994 but suffered a defeat to Fob James .

Folsom returned to politics in 2006 when he was re-elected lieutenant governor on November 6. His tenure began in January 2007 and ended in January 2011.
