Windeshausen is a district of the rural community of town Heringen / Helme in the district of Nordhausen in Thuringia .

location

Windehausen is located east of the city of Nordhausen in the Goldenen Aue and north of the city of Heringen. The Halle - Nordhausen railway line and the 38 federal motorway run through the district . The river Zorge flows on the south-western edge of the village , further east, behind Aumühle, is the Kelbra dam .

history

It is very likely that Windehausen is a Wendish settlement. Not only the former ring-shaped local architecture with surrounding moat, which can still be seen today, suggest this. The name also probably means House of Wends . The place is mentioned for the first time on March 16, 1158 in a document from Emperor Friedrich I as Winthusen . At that time Frederick left the imperial castle and the royal court of Nordhausen to the Nordhausen nunnery at the request of its abbess Cecilia in exchange for two pounds denarii of annual income in Windehausen and Bielen .

The place belonged to the Heringen office for a long time . In 1819 the offices of Heringen and Kelbra came to Prussia and thus Windehausen to the district of Sangerhausen in the province of Saxony- Anhalt.

On December 1, 2010, the city of Heringen / Helme and the communities of Auleben , Hamma , Uthleben and Windehausen merged to form the rural community of Heringen / Helme.

politics

The local council consists of 6 people and the local mayor. Mathias Echtermeyer has been elected town mayor since 2014.

Worth seeing

In the local church there is a pietà that is around 700 years old . The representation made of linden wood is about 120 cm high and is also shown in the current coat of arms of the place. It shows Mary with the body of Jesus on her lap after it has been taken from the cross.
