Windham County is a county in the state of Connecticut with 109,091 residents. The traditional county seat is Windham , but in Connecticut all local administrative functions have been transferred to the parishes.

The county has an area of 1,351 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Worcester County, Massachusetts, Providence Counties and Kent Counties (Rhode Island), and New London Counties and Tolland Counties .

Windham County was formed in 1726 from parts of Hartford County and New London County .

The county had a population of 109,091 people as of the 2000 census . There were 41,142 households and 28,223 families. The population density was 82 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.27 percent white, 1.87 percent African American, 0.48 percent Native American, 0.83 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.59 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 7.09 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 41,142 households, 33.5 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 52.3 percent were married couples living together, 11.9 percent were single mothers. 31.4 percent were not families. 24.3 percent were single households and 9.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.1 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.0 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 45,115 , and the median income for a family is $ 52,490. Males had a median income of $ 38,319 versus $ 26,745 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,443. 8.5 percent of the population and 5.7 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 10.3 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 7.1 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
