The Wireless Institute of Australia ( German about "Funkinstitut von Australien" ), WIA for short , is the national association of radio amateurs in Australia .
history
It was founded on March 11, 1910, making it one of the first amateur radio associations in the world. The place of foundation was the Australia Hotel on Martin Place (picture left) in Sydney.
The WIA is a non-profit organization . It supports its members and promotes their activities.
The WIA's in-house magazine has been Amateur Radio Magazine (AR) since 1933 . It is now published monthly and is dedicated to various member activities such as contests , campaigns such as SOTA and "DXpeditions", as well as the typical topics of amateur radio , such as transmission and reception technology, test reports and assembly instructions for antennas and so on. The informative reports on the history of radio technology are an aspect of the magazine that is particularly worth reading . This also includes the history of radio and the history of television .
The WIA is a member of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU Region 3), the international association of amateur radio associations, and represents the interests of Australian radio amateurs there.
