Vladimir Alexeyevich Lepko

Vladimir Alexeyevich Lepko ( Russian Владимир Алексеевич Лепко * 13 . Jul / 25. December  1898 . Greg in Gagra , Russian Empire ; † 19th October 1963 in Moscow ) was a Soviet theater - and film - actor and voice actor who, through his Comedian appearances gained notoriety.

Life and accomplishments

Originally from Abkhazia , Lepko attended a secondary school in Yekaterinoslavka from 1906 to 1907 and then from 1908 to 1912 the grammar school there . Already during his school days he showed an interest in literature and acting. From 1914 to 1916 he worked as an artist and decoration assistant in Samara and Vyatka , then served in the Tsarist Army and, after the October Revolution, in the Red Army near Krasnoye Selo . During his military service he entertained the wounded in the hospital. In 1920 Lepko was demobilized and then organized a youth theater in Jelez . From 1921 to 1922 he headed the theater of the railway workers in Voronezh and then worked briefly again as an artist and decorator. In 1923 Lepko moved to the theater Кривое зеркало ( Kriwoje serkalo , German: Krummer Spiegel ) in Petrograd , where he worked for five years as a performer, including as a pantomime , as well as a director and decorator. The repertoire of the house included plays by Shakespeare , Molière , Goldoni , Gogol and Ostrowski , but also modern works. From 1929 to 1935 Lepko was employed by the Music Halls of Leningrad and Moscow, where he sang the piece Лекция о вреде пьянства ( Lekzija o wrede pjanstwa ) for the first time in 1931 , which was to be part of his standard repertoire for years. His achievements even earned him the admiration of the dramaturge and director Vladimir Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko .

In 1936 Lepko went to the Moscow Satire Theater , which remained his place of work until his death. At that time the theater building contained several living rooms, one of which Lepko had already used before he moved. At this point there is now an event room named after him. Lepko soon became a crowd puller and one of the best comedians of his time. His best-known roles included the Pantalone in The Servant of Two Masters and the Pope in Mysterium Buffo (1957).

From 1926 Lepko also worked as a film actor, he made his debut in the Gogol film adaptation of The Coat . He appeared in front of the camera until his death, primarily in comedies, but also in the crime film The Rumyantsev case (1956). He was also seen in Alexander Rou's directorial debut The Magic Fish (1938) as a cook and in two episodes of the children's program Фитиль ( Fitil , 1962–1963). Starting with the Mosfilm production Завещание ( Saweschtschanije , 1937), Lepko also took on fifteen engagements as a voice actor for animation films .

He died around two months before his 65th birthday and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery , Section 8, Row 34. Andrei Alexandrowitsch Mironov , who is more than 40 years his junior, took his place as the audience favorite at the Satire Theater .

Honors

Lepko was a holder of the medal "For the Defense of Moscow" (1944) and was honored with the titles of Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1947) and People's Artist of the RSFSR (1954).

In 1962 he was in Paris as part of the International Theater Festival the award for Best Actor for his roles in The Bug and The bone of contention , which earned him mentions in the international press.

Private

From his relationship with the dancer Antonina Krupenina their daughter Viktorija Vladimirovna Lepko (born July 20, 1941), who is also an actress, emerged.
