The club was founded in 1959 under the name Vodnik Tyumen . The team kept this name until 1972, when the team was renamed Rubin Tyumen . In 1995 the name was again changed to Gasowik Tyumen , as the association had entered into a sponsorship relationship with the gas production company Gazprom .

From 1994 to 1999 the club played in the first Russian league. In 1999 he rose to the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division. For the 2010/11 season , the team was finally included in their successor league , the Wysschaja Hockey League , after they had changed their name back to Rubin Tyumen in the summer of 2010 . In this, the team won the championship of the second highest Russian league in the premiere season. The team was registered as champions by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation for the IIHF Continental Cup in the 2011/12 season .
