Wolf Kerschek (* 1969 in Hamburg ) is a German composer, arranger, conductor and jazz musician ( piano , vibraphone , marimba ) who works as a university lecturer.

Live and act

Wolf Kerschek studied and graduated from the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and then completed a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service at Berklee College of Music in the subjects of vibraphone , contemporary writing and production and film scoring .

The album Cycles was created in 1995 as a duo with Thorsten Wollmann . Since his return from the USA he has made guest appearances as a musician, arranger and conductor in the big bands of the North German , West German and Hessian Radio ; he made commissioned compositions and arranged or conducted orchestral productions for various clients. He continued to work in Niels Klein's tentet and Ulrich Tukur and Gabriel Coburger's combos .

In 2006, Kerschek orchestrated and conducted the FIFA anthem (played before every World Cup match). In 2016 he composed and produced the official ARD Olympic song for the broadcast of the Olympic Games from Rio with Daniela Mercury and the NDR Big Band .

Kerschek played, wrote and conducted a. a. for the federal jazz orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer , has toured with various formations in the USA, Russia, the Baltic States, Spain, Portugal, Finland, Scandinavia, England, the Benelux countries and Switzerland, where a. played at the Montreux Jazz Festival . He also went on study trips to Brazil, Indonesia and Africa, appeared on radio and television with musicians such as John Taylor , Jorge Degas , Arkadi Shilkloper , Trilok Gurtu and Joe Gallardo and has recorded over 50 CDs to date.

In 2004 he received a professorship for jazz theory, composition and film music at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater. He is now head of the jazz department there.

Kerschek broke a Guinness world record in 2016 by conducting a concert in the stadium in Frankfurt with an orchestra with 7548 musicians ("the largest orchestra in the world").

Prizes and awards

In 2006 Kerschek received an echo for his musical work on the TV series " Little Amadeus ". In 2013 he received the Hamburg Jazz Prize for his services to jazz in Hamburg
