The Woody Hayes Trophy is an award given annually to the best college football head coach in the United States . The award is named after Woody Hayes , the former coach of Ohio State Buckeyes and Miami University . It has been awarded annually by the Touchdown Club of Columbus since 1977 . The current awardee is Dabo Swinney from Clemson University .
