Root Jesse window in Andrésy

The root Jesse window in the Catholic parish church of St-Germain-de-Paris in Andrésy , a commune in the Yvelines department of the French region of Île-de-France , is a stained glass window from the end of the 16th century that is classified as a cultural monument ( Monument historique ) is protected.

description

The window from an unknown workshop is only preserved as a fragment. Only six kings of Israel are present in the middle lancet , the two large-format saints in the middle (left and right lancet) presumably come from another window.

The root of Jesse is a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is shown in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse , the father of King David . Jesse is shown asleep and the following branches of the tree appear to David and another eleven kings of Israel. The conclusion is the depiction of Mary with child (seen here in the tracery ).

In addition to the Wurzel-Jesse window , four other windows from the 16th century have been preserved in the church.
