Yosvany Sánchez Larrudet

Yosvany Sánchez Larrudet (born September 17, 1975 in Matanzas ) is a former Cuban wrestler , multiple Pan-American champion and free style Olympic participant.

Career

Yosvany Sánchez started wrestling as a teenager in 1987 in his hometown. He also became a member of the Deportivo Matanzas sports club . He was trained by Filiberto Delgado. In addition to wrestling, which he mainly devoted himself to, he studied at a technical college. As an adult, with a height of 1.69 meters, he always wrestled in the lightweight (weight class up to 68/69 kg body weight).

In 1991 he started for the first time in an international championship, the Junior World Championship (Cadets = age group up to the age of 16) and came in 5th place in the weight class up to 60 kg in Alma , Canada . At the Junior World Championship in 1992 in Cali , Colombia , he competed in the juniors (ages up to 18 years) in the featherweight and won behind Jang Jae-sung of South Korea and Mitsuhiro Amagai from Japan a bronze medal . When he last participated in a Junior World Championship in Tehran in 1995 (Espoirs = age group up to the age of 20), he achieved the greatest success in his young wrestling career, because he was there before Islam Matveev from Russia , Ruslan Veliev from Kazakhstan and Emzar Bedineishvili ( Emzarios Bentinidis ) from Georgia Junior lightweight world champion .

In 1996 Yosvany Sánchez also became known in Germany , because he competed at the German Grand Prix in Leipzig and won this tournament ahead of Sihamir Osmanow from Russia and Fatih Özbas from Turkey . In the same year he also managed to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Atlanta with a 2nd place at the qualifying tournament in Cali behind Terry Steiner from the United States . In Atlanta he started in the lightweight and got off to a bad start because he lost his first fight against Oleg Gogol from Belarus . Then he won over Paulo Alejandro Ibire from Argentina , Janos Forizs from Hungary , Akbar Fallah from Iran , Kullo Koiv from Estonia and the reigning 1995 world champion Araik Geworgjan from Armenia and after this series of victories had the chance to fight Zaza Zazirow from Ukraine to fight for an Olympic bronze medal. He lost this fight but with 5: 8 techn. Points and therefore came in fourth place.

1997 was Yosvany Sánchez in San Juan , Puerto Rico , in the lightweight for the first time Pan-American champion before Eloy Urbano from Mexico and Chris Bono from the United States. At this year's World Cup in Krasnoyarsk , he managed only one win against Tibor Copik from Slovakia . Defeats against Zaza Zazirow and Zwetelin Wasiljew from Bulgaria threw him back to 20th place.

In 1998 he was again Pan American champion in Winnipeg . He won ahead of John Giura from the United States and Edison Hurtado Lerma from Colombia . He was not used at the World Cup that year. However, he delivered excellent fights at the World Cup in Stillwater and won over Ryusaburo Katsu, Japan , Fatih Özbas and the like. Massoud Jamshidi from Iran in defeat against Taimuras Orussow from Russia and Lincoln McIlravy from the United States in 3rd place.

At the 1999 World Cup in Spokane he was not so successful because he lost there against Daniel Igali from Canada , Lincoln McIlravy and Amir Tavakolian from Iran and only won over Jens Gündling from Germany, which brought him to 4th place. At the Pan American Games in 1999 in Winnipeg , he had to admit defeat again to Lincoln McIlravy, but finished second before Daniel Igali. At the 1999 World Cup in Ankara , Sánchez won his first three fights, but then lost to Emzarios Bentinidis , with which he was eliminated and finished in 7th place.

In the 2000 Olympic year, he won the Pan American Championship for the third time. In Cali he won this lightweight title ahead of David Cubas from Peru and Angelo Alberto Brea from the Dominican Republic. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Yosvany Sánchez won over Peter Kasabow from Bulgaria and Mariusz Dabrowski from Poland . Then he met the 1999 world champion Daniel Igali , to whom he lost on points. According to the regulations in force at that time, he only had the chance to fight for 5th place against Ivan Diaconu from Moldova . He won this fight safely on points. According to the regulations in force since 2005 (consolation round), he would also have had the chance to fight for the Olympic bronze medal.

In 2001 Yosvany Sánchez won in Santo Domingo , Dom. Rep., For the fourth time the title at the Pan-American Championship and then started at the World Championship in Sofia . In one of the preliminary rounds he managed to win over the 2000 Olympic champion Daniel Igali . But he lost his fourth fight with 2: 3 techn. Points against Amir Tavakolian , with which he was eliminated and finished in 7th place.

After these world championships he ended his international wrestling career. Nothing is known about his further life.
