YouTube TV is an online service from YouTube with a paid video-on-demand and streaming offer that requires registration. YouTube TV's offering includes the major US broadcasters such as ABC , CBS, NBC , Fox, FX Network , AMC , CNN , FoxNews , TBS , Discovery Channel and ESPN . The service is currently only available to users with a US IP address . The service can be accessed from mobile devices , computers , smart TVs and streaming media players. YouTube TV offers a cloud-based DVR service with unlimited storage that stores recordings for nine months. Each subscription can be split across six accounts and allows up to three simultaneous streams. The service passed the threshold of over one million subscribers in 2019.

YouTube TV began streaming in five US cities - New York City , Los Angeles , Chicago , Philadelphia, and San Francisco in April 2017 . Channels that could be accessed were CNBC , MSNBC , Fox News, BBC World News , The Smithsonian Channel (a channel on the CBS-owned Showtime Network ); SundanceTV (owned by AMC Networks); numerous sports channels; Disney Channel (owned by The Walt Disney Company ) and BBC America (jointly owned by AMC Networks and BBC Studios ). YouTube TV members also have access to movies and series from YouTube Premium (although YouTube TV doesn't come with a YouTube Premium subscription). Games and highlights from Major League Soccer , Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association have also been available on YouTube TV since 2017 and 2018 .

The availability of the service was expanded to 98 percent of US households in January 2019. In March 2019 YouTube TV started in Glendive ( Montana ), and is thus in all TV markets in the United States available.

On April 10, 2019, YouTube TV added nine Discovery, Inc. networks (including the Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, HGTV, and Food Network). This brought YouTube TV to more than 70 channels. Google also announced that they would add the Oprah Winfrey Network .

On July 29, 2019, on the Television Critics Association's Summer Press Tour in Pasadena, California , YouTube TV announced that it had entered into a landmark multi-year contract with PBS to broadcast live streams from PBS member stations and the PBS To enable Kids Channel from the fourth quarter of 2019.
