The student order with the designation ZN was one of the most important student orders at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in the 18th century.

history

In addition to what was probably the only student order Concordia et Taciturnitas (CeT) that remained after the ban from 1766 to 1778, the Order ZN emerged from the Ordre de l'Esperance and the Göttingen Espérancierloge Mars in 1772, most recently under the seniorate of Professor Blumenbach until it was banned 1784. According to historians, ZN was the most influential Göttingen student order of the second half of the 18th century. Carl Friedrich Schubert , matriculated May 8, 1778 until Easter 1781, author of the Schubert silhouette collection (1778–1781) with portraits of his Koätanen in the Hanoverian Landsmannschaft and the highlighted members of the other Landsmannschaft of his time in Göttingen, many of whom were also members of the Ordens ZN, held many ZN members in Göttingen as silhouettes and referred to them as members. Moreover, many ZN-user does in pedigree records the character of the order consisting of the letters "ZN" even with.

When it was banned, the Order had substantial financial assets that had been raised for the establishment of a chemical laboratory. Under Ernst Brandes , these funds were earmarked for a memorial for Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz , while further funds were raised from the circle of members . The Irish sculptor Christopher Hewetson created the Leibniz bust for the Leibniz Temple in Hanover from the liquidation assets of the order in 1788 and at the same time created a permanent memorial to the ZN Order and its educational objectives.

Members of the Ordre de l'Esperance

Members of the previous order in Göttingen formed the old rulers and the supporters of the order ZN, according to Dietrich Heinrich Ludwig von Ompteda , imm. October 14, 1763 ex Ritterakademie Lüneburg (1761–1763), also member of the Ordre de l'Esperance . It is also included in the list of participants for the Duke of York's visit to Göttingen on August 22, 1765. It is further documented by its entry in the family book of the Bush (1763-66) . Next Ernst August Rumann , imm. October 24, 1763 to Michaelis 1766, also included in the list of participants for the visit of the Duke of York in Göttingen on August 22, 1765. and Christian Ludwig Albrecht Patje , imm. October 20, 1764 to Easter 1767.
