Geographical location

Zaßnitz is located immediately south of the old town of Rochlitz in an arch on the south bank of the Zwickauer Mulde . As a result, the place is surrounded by the river in the west, north and east. The ensemble of Rochlitz Castle with the castle mill and St. Petrikirche on the north bank can be reached from Zaßnitz via a prominent suspension bridge (Zaßnitzer Steg). Right next to it, the railway viaduct of the disused Glauchau – Wurzen railway (Muldentalbahn) crosses the Zwickauer Mulde. A road bridge connects Zaßnitz and Rochlitz via the federal highway 107 east of Zaßnitz. The only other access to the village is from the south from Biesern . The Rochlitzer Berg is located southwest of Zaßnitz .

history

View of Zaßnitz from Rochlitz Castle

Zaßnitz was mentioned in 1350 by mentioning the manor house of the gentlemen "Dithericus de Schaznicz" and "Ticzman de Zcasnicz". This manor was called Vorwerk and Knight 's Seat in 1445 . Around 1520 there was only talk of a Vorwerk. With regard to the manorial rule , the place on the opposite bank of the Rochlitz Castle, built as an imperial castle in the 10th century, belonged as an official village to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office Rochlitz until 1856 . Ecclesiastically, the place has always been parish to Rochlitz. The offices were dissolved during the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony in the 19th century . As a result, Zaßnitz came under the administration of the Rochlitz court office in 1856 and in 1875 under the newly established Rochlitz administration . Since the opening of the Penig - Rochlitz section on May 29, 1876, the Glauchau – Wurzen (Muldentalbahn) line ran through Zaßnitz and over the large, striking viaduct over the Zwickauer Mulde to Rochlitz.

On July 1, 1950, Zaßnitz was incorporated into Steudten. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Zaßnitz was incorporated as a district of the municipality of Steudten into the Rochlitz district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Rochlitz from 1990 and the newly formed in 1994 District Mittweida and in 2008 in the District Central Saxony. When the municipality of Steudten was incorporated into Seelitz , Zaßnitz was reclassified to Rochlitz on January 1, 1994. On June 9, 2001, due to the poor condition of the superstructure of the Muldentalbahn, the last trains ran between Rochlitz and Wechselburg . Since 2010 the association Sächsischer Eisenbahnfreunde e. V. (VSE, headquarters in Schwarzenberg in the Ore Mountains) on weekends regular tourist traffic with the so-called Schienentrabi .
