Zola Mennenöh

Zola Mennenöh (* 1988 in Wuppertal ) is a German jazz musician ( vocals ), flautist and composer.

Mennenöh grew up in Remscheid , where she came to music when she was eight. First she received classical lessons on the flute . She started playing jazz at the age of twelve. It was only in her late adolescence that she discovered singing for herself. From 2007 to 2009 she studied jazz singing with Silvia Droste in Enschede, and then continued her bachelor's degree at the Berlin Jazz Institute until she graduated in 2013 with Judy Niemack , Greg Cohen and John Hollenbeck . In 2011 she won the advancement award at the national vocal competition New Voices. During her studies, Mennenöh was a member of the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra and in 2012/2013 the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra . From 2013 to 2014 she completed her master’s degree at the Weimar Academy of Music with Michael Schiefel , Jeff Cascaro and Frank Möbus . She currently lives and works between Copenhagen, Oslo and all of Germany.

Mennenöh maintains a duo with Greg Cohen and leads the Zola Run quartet . She also sings in Ensemble O. with the singers Friederike Merz , Dora Osterloh and Laura Winkler . As a member of the Sung Sound collective , she composes for big bands. Concerts and tours have taken her to China, Senegal, Croatia, Holland, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Estonia. She is also on the albums Blue Desert of K Square and Eat, Drink & Be Merry by Holler My Dear heard.

Zola Mennenöh has been a member of the a cappella quartet Of Cabbages and Kings since autumn 2018 , where she plays with Veronika Morscher , Laura Totenhagen and Rebekka Salomea Ziegler . She took the place of Sabeth Pérez , who had left the ensemble.
