Centro e Centro Histórico
Centro e Centro Histórico ( Portuguese for center and historical center ; also known as Zona Central ) is a sub-prefecture of Rio de Janeiro . It includes the historic administrative and financial center of Rio. The Praça Quinze de Novembro (Praça XV) near the banks of the Guanabara Bay was the main square in colonial Rio de Janeiro. Since the " Cariocas " rediscovered the previously neglected reminiscences of their historic city center in the 1990s, the city administration has started various renovation projects. In particular, historical buildings and public spaces, which are also of tourist interest, were included in these renovation plans. The Porto Maravilha project and the Orla Conde promenade are particularly important for the district.
