description

Vegetative characteristics

The shaggy flax is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 20 to 60 centimeters. Many above-ground parts of the plant are hairy. The predominantly one another on stem arranged leaves are sessile. The simple leaf blade is undivided and entire. The middle leaves have a width of mostly 4 to 10 millimeters ovate-oblong to elongated leaf blade, which is ciliate without glands.

Generative characteristics

The flowering time of the Zottel-Lein ranges in Central Europe from June to mid- October . The bracts are ciliate glandular. The flower stalks are shorter than the sepals . The flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The sepals have a broadly lanceolate shape and are mostly glandless. The five free petals are 20 to 30 millimeters long. The color of the petals is lilac blue with a yellowish spot on the base. The five stamens are fused to form a ring at the base. On the upper permanent ovary are one, three or five stylus on, the shaggy-Lein is therefore verschiedengriffelig.

Chromosome number

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

ecology

The shaggy flax is a hemicryptophyte .

Spread and endangerment

The Zottel-Lein is native to Central Europe in Austria, the Czech Republic , Poland and Hungary as well as in Southeastern Europe , Ukraine , Crimea and Turkey . In the German-speaking area he only appears in Austria .

In Austria the shaggy flax occurs only in the subspecies Linum hirsutum subsp. hirsutum in the Pannonian area seldom occurs on dry, warm, mostly ruderally disturbed and open edges and lawns in the colline altitude . The occurrences are limited to the federal states of Vienna , Burgenland , Lower Austria and Carinthia . However, the occurrences in the latter state are considered questionable.
