To the Holy Cross (Sprötau)
The Evangelical Lutheran listed church Zum Heiligen Kreuz is located in Sprötau , a municipality in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia . The parish Sprötau belongs to the parish area Schloßvippach-Udestedt in Kirchenkreis Apolda Buttstaedt the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The hall church was rebuilt in 1692–1701, as an inscription attests. It has a massive choir tower drawn in in the east and a two-flight flight of stairs on the west side to the galleries , which were added to the nave , which is essentially older, around 1600 . The side walls of the nave, which is covered with a slate roof , have high arched windows . The tower has a slate-roofed bulbous hood on which an open lantern sits, which is crowned by a tower ball and a weather vane .
The interior has three-sided, two-story galleries and is covered with a wooden barrel vault. The choir is covered by a wooden vault.
The church furnishings from the renovation period have been completely preserved. Parts of the galleries, such as a winding spiral staircase , were made around 1600. On the parapets on the first floor of the gallery there are popular paintings with scenes from the New Testament and the Evangelists and on the second floor there are scenes from the Old Testament . In the chancel there is a carved pulpit altar with winding columns on the basket and on the prospectus. On the side there are carved figures of Moses and Jesus Christ , who appears again in the blasted gable above the sound cover .
Parts of the equipment are designated as foundations of a few families. The baptismal font from 1599 and the crucifix from 1600 were also donated by wealthy families. The font is decorated with cherubs and cartridges , the inscriptions bear. A large painting about the Last Supper was donated around 1700. The organ in the neo-baroque prospectus has 19 stops , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , and was created around 1830 by an unknown organ builder and rebuilt in 1920.
