Two times two (Original title: Big Business ) is an American comedy film directed by Jim Abrahams from 1988 .

action

In the 1940s, two pairs of twins were born at a factory hospital in Jupiter Hollow. One couple comes from a local peasant family, the other from a wealthy urban entrepreneurial family who were in transit when labor began. In order to be admitted to the hospital, the businessman had bought the associated furniture factory without further ado. A short-sighted nurse swaps two children in such a way that biologically unrelated girls grow up together. Both characters played by Bette Midler are named Sadie, and both characters played by Lily Tomlin are called Rose. In both sister relationships, the sister who grows up with her biological parents is the more dominant one - that is, Sadie in the city and Rose in the country.

In the 1980s, the wealthy sisters who still own the Jupiter Hollow factory plan to close the facility. The sisters, who grew up in poor conditions, travel to New York City to prevent this. The two couples meet at The Plaza Hotel in New York , where a conference is taking place. Without suspecting the existence of their true sisters, there is a lot of confusion. Accordingly, the surprise is great when they meet. In the ensuing argument, the Rose from the city immediately takes the side of Jupiter Hollow, while the Sadie from the country sways. After all, she goes against her true sister and for the preservation of the work. To prevent the closure, the Sadie out of town is overwhelmed and her sister takes her place at the meeting. Thanks to her passion for Alexis from the series The Denver Clan , she can hold out the new role and save the work in the end.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of June 10, 1988 that the idea should have turned out to be a funny film, instead the end result was a series of endless, boring near-encounters between the twins at the Plaza Hotel . The script is the fundamental problem of the film. It is downright shockingly disappointing that the meeting of the twins was given away. Worse than a slow, boring dramatic structure is one that is not followed by a punchline.

“Disappointing mix-up comedy that is neither convincing in terms of the idea nor the staging; the comedic ability of the two leading actresses is only required to a limited extent. "

“Furious comedy about two exchanged twin pairs that is unparalleled. Bette Midler (“ The incredible kidnapping of crazy Mrs. Stone ”) and Lily Tomlin (“ Solo for two ”) are in top form [...]. Optically brilliant and funny for shooting. "

"Conclusion: This women's double is hard to believe."
