Zwischenentoren is a valley in the Ausserfern in Tyrol . Historically, this is the area "between the gates" Fernpass and Ehrenberger Klause . In a narrower sense, it is now understood to mean the valley between the Ehrwald Basin and the Reutten Basin . The Zwischenentoren is also a planning association .
Location and landscape
The valley runs from southeast to northwest and separates the Ammergau Alps in the north from the Lechtal Alps in the south. At Lähn (municipality of Bichlbach ) there is a valley watershed at around 1100 m above sea level. A. East of it the Lussbach flows to the Loisach , the area to the west of it drains over the Grundbach to the Heiterwanger See and subsequently over the Plansee and Archbach into the Lech . The Ehrwalder Basin with its central moorland and the landslide landscape north of the Fernpass with its lakes such as the Blindsee also count as intermediate gates .
In the area around Bichlbach and Lähn, deposits from the late Pleistocene to early Holocene were found, which indicate that at the end of the last Ice Age a meltwater reservoir covered the entire valley, the remains of which are the Heiterwanger See and the Plansee.
Economy and Transport
Intermediate gates are an important traffic artery, the Via Claudia Augusta already led through here in antiquity , today the Fernpassstraße and the Ausserfernbahn run here . Tourism is economically significant with the Heiterwanger See and Zugspitze attractions . Due to the unfavorable natural and climatic conditions, agriculture does not play a major role today; most farms are farmed as a sideline .
Planning association
The planning association Zwischenentoren includes the communities of Biberwier , Ehrwald and Lermoos in the Ehrwalder Becken, Bichlbach and Heiterwang in the actual valley and Berwang on the saddle connecting the Rotlechtal . Together the six municipalities have 6,282 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 244.1 km² (9.3% of which is permanent settlement area ).
