history

In the 7th century BC This place was the dominion of the Kimmerer . After the Cimmerians, the Lydians , Persians , Macedonians , Seleucids and the Pergamener ruled in succession . 130 BC The area fell to the Romans , after which the place belonged to the territory of the Byzantine Empire . In the course of the advance of the Uc beylikleri , the area around Eşme fell under Turkish rule in 1233 together with that of Uşak . Shortly afterwards, the Turkmen settled in the province. In the 19th century the five Nahiye of Selendi, Sirge, İnay, Güre and Takmak existed in the area of the district , which were administratively attached to the Mutasarrıflık Denizli . In 1867 the Nahiye became a Kaza , the forerunner of today's district, which was named Eşme after one of the Turkmen tribes, the Eşmeli . The main town of the district was Takmak. After the railway line to İzmir was built in 1898, the village of Elvanlar on the railway line experienced an economic boom, while the administrative center of Takmak stagnated. After the First World War , Takmak and the Eşme district were taken by the Greeks in the Turkish Liberation War . On September 3, 1922, Takmak was liberated again. However, the Greeks had laid the small town ( Kasaba ) Takmak in ruins, so that by order of the General Council ( Genel Meclisi ) the new district center was built in Manisa next to the Elvanlar train station and was given the name of the district. Takmak sank down to a village. Administratively, the district was attached to the Manisa Province . When the province of Uşak was founded in 1953 and Uşak was separated from the area of the province of Kütahya , the Eşme district was attached to the new province.
