Edin Dzeko is tall, strong, and technically gifted. Felix Magath describes him as "just the right striker that a club would wish for" because he is unselfish, has an accurate shot and header, and knows what to do with the ball the moment he receives it.

Club career

Edin Dzeko started his professional career at FK Željezničar where he played as a midfielder from 2003-2005. He scored five goals in a total of 40 games. He made a move to FK Teplice of the Czech top-flight league, the Gambrinus Liga. He played from 2005–2007 and scored 16 goals in 43 games, becoming top scorer of the league in 2006/2007 season. Due to his performances there, Felix Magath of VfL Wolfsburg signed him for 4,000,000 Euros. The move turned out to be perfect for him as he scored five goals and made three assists in twelve games and was also named by Sportal.de as the best striker in the first half of the 2007–2008 Bundesliga season.

International career

Edin Dzeko has been part of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team for a long time. First starting to play with the Bosnia and Herzegovina national under-19 football team in 2003 and 2004 in Kazakstahn and Italy. He was also part of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national under-21 football team and played in 2007 when the competition was hosted by Holland. Bosnias first challenge was Armenia and Norway. They beat Armenia 3-2 and tied with Norway 1-1 thus qualifying for the playoff against the Czech Republic. First leg Bosnia lost 2-1, second leg came out as a 1-1 draw. Dzeko scored multiple goals in this tournament. Now he is a valuable member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. He made his senior debut against Turkey on June 2, 2007. It was a dream debut for the youngster that he capped off with a wicked right-footed (he is primarily left-footed) volley from the edge of the box during first half stoppage time. The goal levelled the score at 2-2. Bosnia went on to win 3-2. Edin Dzeko also played in the Bosnia match against Malta and gave a magnificent assist. Since Džeko's performance in the game against Turkey, he is widely regarded as the most promising young Bosnian player at only 22 years of age.
