(12147) Bramante is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery came about as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory .
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 4.709 (± 0.067) km and the albedo to be 0.126 (± 0.026).
The asteroid was 28 November 2010 by the Italian architect of the High Renaissance Donato Bramante named (1444-1514), among others in Rome to St. Peter's Basilica designed. As early as 1976, an impact crater on the southern hemisphere of the planet Mercury was named after Donato Bramante: Mercury crater Bramante .
