(6054) Ghiberti is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery came about as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory .

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated as 4.895 (± 0.205) km , the albedo as 0.223 (± 0.032) -

(6054) Ghiberti was named on March 5, 1996 after the sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti, who, along with Luca della Robbia and Donatello, was one of the founders of the early Renaissance in Florence . The asteroid of the outer main belt (6057) is named after Luca della Robbia, and the asteroid of the middle main belt (6056) is named after Donatello . As early as 1976, an impact crater on the southern hemisphere of the planet Mercury was named after Lorenzo Ghiberti: Mercury crater Ghiberti .
