(96506) Upper Austria is an asteroid located in the central main belt . It was discovered on July 26, 1998 by the Austrian amateur astronomer Erich Meyer at the Davidschlag observatory ( IAU code 540). The observatory is located in the Davidschlag district of the Kirchschlag municipality near Linz , Upper Austria .

The mean diameter of (96506) Upper Austria was calculated to be 3.968 (± 0.117) kilometers, the albedo as 0.102 (± 0.019).

The asteroid was named on May 20, 2008 after the Austrian state of Upper Austria, which is home to the observatory with which it was discovered.
