Äpfelgschwendt has been an uninhabited cadastral community of Göpfritz an der Wild in Lower Austria since January 1st, 1964, with an area of 568.90 hectares. In order to be able to create the Döllersheim military training area , the residents were evacuated from 1938 onwards . Neunzen and Teufelmühle also belonged to the village .

The helibase Äpfelgschwendt of the Austrian Armed Forces is located there today .

history

The street village of Äpfelgschwendt was east of Edelbach , where the place was parish and schooled, on a plateau on a source stream of the Taffa .

Äpfelgschwendt was first mentioned in 1175 on the occasion of a donation from Marquard von Tige to Zwettl Abbey, which testifies, among other things, to a Hainricus de Hepfengeswende. Duke Leopold VI. confirmed in 1201 Zwettl Abbey the ownership of four hubs in Hepfengeswente. In 1282 the family of knights von Hepfengswendt was mentioned for the last time in documents from Zwettl Abbey. In 1530, Äpfelgschwendt was sold together with Neunzen from Zwettl Abbey.

The place was burned down by the Bohemians in 1480 and by the Swedes in 1645 .
In 1658 Joachim Freiherr von Windhag acquired the
Apfelgschwendt, which consisted of four desolate and one donated houses.
In 1753 the local chapel was built.

The parish Altpölla kept the church records with the births from 1629 and from 1638 also those with the marriages and deaths. From 1676, however, corresponding records were also kept by the parish of Edelbach, without the reason for this being understandable. With the dissolution of the Edelbach parish as a result of the relocation, the registers of the Zwettl Abbey parish were handed over for safekeeping.

On April 29, 1938, an Adolf Hitler oak was planted in Äpfelgschwendt .
In order to be able to set up the Döllersheim military training area, the people of Äpfelgschwendt were given time by April 1, 1939 by the Nazi rulers to leave the 45-house area.

In the Belgiertal or Belgierschlucht near Äpfelgschwendt, soldiers of the Wehrmacht were executed by members of the SS during the Second World War.

In space Äpfelgschwendt was the army the Helibase Äpfelgschwendt , a helicopter base, built.

Devil's mill

The Teufelsmühle was a sawmill on the Taffa, incorporated into Äpfelgschwendt , which could only be reached via a steep and winding road.
