The Österreichberg is a 1267  m above sea level. A. high Kuppe in Pongau in the province of Salzburg , Upper Austria , between the Tennengebirge and Dachstein massif .

Location and landscape

The Österreichberg is located in the Fritztal , the connection between Salzachpongau and Ennspongau , near Niedernfritz . The Fritztal runs west-east here, the valley of the St. Martinbach branches off to the northeast , which then leads into the Lammertal . The mountain rises about 500 meters above the valley. It is a foothill of the Gerzkopf , which is itself a foothill of the Dachstein massif near the Bischofsmütze , but belongs to the Salzburg Slate Alps , not the Limestone Alps , to which the Tennengebirge and Dachstein mountains belong. Geologically, it is part of the Werfen strata , so it belongs to the system of the Limestone Alps (Alpine red sandstone and Werfen quartzite , partly Werfen slate and Werfen lime). Both systems build the characteristic round peaks of the Salzburg inner-alpine grass and forest mountains.

Niedernfritz located in the southwest of the mountain, in the valley west Sonnberg and nose rotting , northwest on a slope Buchseitberg , at the foot of Gerzkofps northeast Oberstein and southeast Gasthofberg . A 1086  m above sea level runs between these two latter villages . A. meter high saddle (localities Scharten and Halm ), which connects the Österreichberg with the Gerzkopfstock.

The northern head of the Österreichberg towards St. Martin is called Palfen  ( 1091  m above sea level , Palfen 'rock' ).

About the name

The mountain is already in the early 19th century as Oestereicher mountain or Oestereicher head records ( Franziszeische land survey ) .

Routes and imperial monument

On the south-eastern slope on a forest path ( Österreichbergweg No. 75) and over the saddle at Halmgut there is an easy walking path as a circular walk. Access is possible from Niedernfritz-one way, from the Gasthofgut (service area A10), the Gasthof Sieberer near Eben or St. Martin- Oberstein . There is no way to the summit itself.

At the Palfen pre-summit there is an Emperor Franz Joseph monument . It can also be easily reached from the Schartengut.

Perhaps he refers to the possessions of the then already Austria associated Admont in Archbishopric of Salzburg , or the fact that one of the Salzburg Innergebirg got coming on both sides of the mountain in the Habsburg Monarchy, north to the imperial Salzkammergut as part of Austria on the Enns , south to the inner Austrian duchies of Steyer or Carinthia . @1@ 2Template: Webachiv / IABot / mapire.eu
