History and infrastructure

Niederfritz, overpass of the Tauern motorway

The importance of the valley as a traffic route is proven by several milestones that were found in Roman times (2nd – 5th centuries) . Today's Katschberg Straße  (B99) runs in the Fritztal , and (branching off at km 12.9) via St. Martin into the Lammertal the Pass Gschütt Straße  (B166), which also takes you into the Inner Salzkammergut .

Niedernfritz as a place did not develop until the beginning of the 20th century, the name refers to the landscape of the middle Fritztal - the ' Oberfritz ' is the valley from Eben towards Filzmoos, the Schattbachtal, ' Untere Fritz ' the Engtal to Bischofshofen.
