Übersthal is one of the five districts of the municipality of Siegbach in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse .

Übersthal is surrounded by forest in the Gladenbacher Bergland .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1240. In 1781 the inhabitants built a school and church hall from half-timbered houses in the middle of the village . Today it is used as a village community center. Next to it is a former chapel that has been used as a bakery for centuries .

The Aar-Salzböde-Bahn had a stop in Übersthal. Passenger traffic, which was last served on the Herborn – Hartenrod route, ended in June 2001. After attempts to reactivate it, the route was dismantled in 2006.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse, the municipality of Siegbach merged with Tringenstein, Übersthal and Wallenfels on December 31, 1971 to form the new municipality of Siegbach.
