The place at the foot of the castle hill

Wallenfels is the smallest of the five districts of the Siegbach municipality in the Lahn-Dill district in central Hesse .

geography

The 13 properties of Wallenfels are embedded in the Schelder Forest at the end of an approx. 2.5 km long cul-de-sac (from the K 54), in a horseshoe shape around the castle hill in the Gladenbacher Bergland .

history

The village was probably built around the castle in the first third of the 14th century . The castle fell into disrepair in the 15th century and was then demolished for the purpose of extracting building material.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse, the municipality of Siegbach merged with Tringenstein, Übersthal and Wallenfels on December 31, 1971 to form the new municipality of Siegbach.
