Žandov ( German  Schanda , formerly also Schande ) is a district of Chlumec u Chabařovic in the Czech Republic .

location

Žandov is located eight kilometers northwest of the city center of Ústí nad Labem on the upper reaches of the Ždírnický potok ( Sernitz ) and belongs to the Okres Ústí nad Labem . The Děčín – Chomutov railway runs north of Žandov, and Dálnice 8 runs to the east and south .

The extensive former quarry northeast of Žandov has been closed, with Lake Gustáv in its center, which is now used for bathing purposes. Behind it is the Old Post Office (Stará pošta), which already belongs to Varvažov, with the Arbesauer monuments.

history

The row village at the foot of the southern slope of the Osterzgebirge was created in the 12th century. The first written evidence comes from the year 1384 when the place belonged to the Schreckenstein lordship. In 1487 Schanda passed to the rule Graupen . In 1580 the mining entrepreneur Otto Kölbel from Geising bought the place and founded the village of Sernitz (Ždírnice) in the Sernitztal in 1619, where he had a silver mine sunk . In 1833 15 people lived in four houses in Sernitz.

The place suffered severe damage during the Napoleonic Wars. On August 29, 1813 , French met Russian troops. In fierce fighting, Schanda was burned down to a house (later No. 13) in the Battle of Kulm . A day later, the French General Dominique Joseph Vandamme was arrested on the Asmannwiese in the Sernitztal . After the reconstruction of the village, 37 houses with 218 inhabitants were counted here in 1833. In 1894 parts of the village burned down again. In administrative terms, Schanda formed a community in the judicial district of Karbitz or in the district of Außenig from the mid-19th century .

In terms of the church, the place was administered directly from Aussig, as can be seen from the registers handed down in the Leitmeritz regional archive.

After the end of the Second World War , the majority of the German residents were expelled . In 1980 it was incorporated into Chlumec.
